The word 'stone' is used to describe a variety of limestones used within the memorial trade, such as
Portland, Purbeck, Ham, Bath and York stones.
Of our local stones, Purbeck is the most durable. Portland and Ham stone are as attractive, though
these stones being softer, will weather more rapidly.
Also avaliable are Welsh and Westmoorland slate, they are dark blue and green respectively.
