Two pictures separated by 117 years and not much else.
As anyone who has visited our workshops will know, the yard has not
changed much since this was taken!
In the 1970's Harry Hounsell and his wife Celia entered into partnership with the
Stone family. Harry's father, grandfather and great-grandfather were all stonemasons, with the family business being
based in Broadwey, Weymouth.
In time the Stone family left the business, and David and Susan became the fifth
generation of the Hounsell family to enter the trade.
As the company's reputation for producing fine quality memorials grew, the company
expanded, opening offices and showrooms in Dorchester, and also a branch in Crewkerne, Somerset (the Crewkerne branch has
now moved to Martock, Somerset.
We now cover an area comprising Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire and Hampshire, and
hopefully our reputation for quality and service precedes us in all these locations.
Harry and Celia now take a less active role in the business, whilst being available
as consultants they are enjoying a well earned retirement !
